"This is a precursor to the series, rather than being part of the series proper – painted the evening before I started, with this thought in mind - I want to do powerful dark nocturnes. I want the majesty and depth of night, I want the waves to crash smash smash. I want gritty sand under feet, awe undercut with fear of the power of nature.’ It’s filled with the sea smashing, seafoam and big waves.. and it’s a perfect prelude to what comes next whilst still telling its own story."
